Melina Messing

Scientific Director of Ren-Nu

Melina Messing, MSc, PhD, is the Scientific Director of the Ren.Nu program at Santa Barbara Nutrients. Originally from Germany, she holds a master’s degree from Lund University, Sweden and earned her PhD in Experimental Medicine with a focus on immunology from the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada. Currently, she is a postdoctoral fellow in the Weimbs Lab, where she applies her expertise to researching polycystic kidney disease (PKD).

As a PKD patient with a family history that includes her grandfather, father, aunt, and brother, Melina has personally experienced the transformative impact of the lab’s groundbreaking discoveries. She and her family have successfully adopted ketogenic metabolic therapy and KetoCitra to slow the progression of PKD. After completing the Ren.Nu program herself, Melina is passionate about guiding other patients through similar life-changing dietary and lifestyle approaches. In her free time, she plays the cello in the local Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) orchestra, where she enjoys performing a wide range of classical music.
