Medical Director of Ren-Nu

Dr. Sharon Turban is a board-certified nephrologist specializing in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). Her research has focused on the role of nutrition in preserving kidney function and lowering blood pressure, and she is committed to advancing patient care and advocacy through education and clinical research.

Dr. Turban earned her undergraduate degree from UCLA and her medical degree from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at Baylor College of Medicine. She completed a research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), followed by a nephrology fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She also earned her Master of Health Science degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

In 2007, Dr. Turban joined the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine faculty, where she provided care to patients with a wide variety of kidney diseases, focusing especially on ADPKD. Her research projects have  included designing and conducting a clinical trial on the effects of potassium on blood pressure in chronic kidney disease and contributing to several ADPKD studies, including the landmark TEMPO trial and its open-label extension.

As Medical Director at Santa Barbara Nutrients, Dr. Turban will support patients participating in the Ren-Nu nutritional program and contribute to ongoing research efforts. She is dedicated to translating science into practical strategies that empower patients and improve kidney health.
