This full-time position may be ideal for a recent graduate who is contemplating a career in medicine or clinical or biomedical research, wishes to obtain relevant experience before applying for graduate or medical school, and can commit two years to this position.


Santa Barbara Nutrients, Inc (SBN), is a startup company out of UCSB that creates science-based nutraceuticals to address kidney disease and other conditions. SBN is a benefit corporation headquartered in Santa Barbara and was founded by kidney researchers and kidney patients to commercialize technology invented at UCSB. We are seeking applicants for a Clinical Research Assistant to support the following tasks:

  • Writing clinical study protocols, applications for regulatory approvals, and reports.
  • Writing grant proposals.
  • Communicating with clinical researchers and administrators.
  • Facilitating the trouble-free running of clinical studies.
  • Collecting data obtained from research, coding and analyzing it.
  • Administering questionnaires and monitoring participants.
  • Monitoring clinical studies to ensure compliance with protocols, ethically conduct and regulatory standards.
  • Maintaining research records of study activity.
  • Procuring and distributing study equipment and supplies.


Skills and qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a biology-related field. Pre-med preferred.
  • Medical and scientific knowledge. Experience in pharmacology preferred.
  • Background in research: Prior laboratory or clinical research experience is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in healthcare preferred.
  • Analytical mindset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills: error-free writing and verbal communication in English, including technical skills with electronic communication platforms.
  • Must be a highly organized person who pays great attention to detail.
  • Excellent technical skills with word processing, office software, email, spreadsheets, producing figures and reports.
  • Excellent managerial skills
