Santa Barbara Nutrients Welcomes Renowned Psychiatrist-Scientist Dr. Guido K.W. Frank to Advisory Board
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — January 27, 2026 — Santa Barbara Nutrients (SBN), a science-driven company dedicated to advancing metabolic health solutions, today announced the appointment of Dr. Guido K.W. Frank, MD to its Advisory Board. Dr. Frank will play a central role in advising SBN’s research strategy, especially in exploring metabolic therapies for mental health disorders.
Dr. Frank is a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). His research and clinical work spans more than three decades. He is a board-certified adult, child, and adolescent psychiatrist, and he provides clinical care through the UC San Diego Health system, including the Child & Teen Psychiatry Program and the Eating Disorders Center for Treatment and Research, where he serves as Director of Psychiatry at the Medical Behavioral Unit at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego.
Dr. Frank trained in psychosomatics at the Center for Behavioral Health Klinik Roseneck (Germany) before completing advanced clinical and research training at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, University of Pittsburgh, and UC San Diego. He has received sustained funding from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and numerous private foundations for investigations into the neurobiology of eating disorders and related psychiatric conditions. His work integrates neuroimaging, computational neuroscience, and clinical research to understand brain circuits that underlie eating behaviors, reward processing, anxiety, and metabolism-related psychopathology. Dr. Frank’s highly-cited research has made a substantial impact in the psychiatry research field.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Frank to the Santa Barbara Nutrients Advisory Board,” said Thomas Weimbs, PhD, President and Chief Scientific Officer of Santa Barbara Nutrients. “His pioneering work at the intersection of psychiatry, brain biology, and metabolic processes aligns perfectly with SBN’s mission to rigorously investigate metabolic therapies for mental health disorders. His expertise will be invaluable as we work to translate emerging science into meaningful innovations that support brain and metabolic health.”
Dr. Frank added: “I am excited to join Santa Barbara Nutrients at a time when the scientific community is increasingly recognizing the deep links between metabolism and brain function. I look forward to supporting SBN’s efforts to accelerate research that could open new pathways to understanding and treating mental health conditions through metabolic approaches.”
